Reading Scripture Together

Jewish-Christian Reading Partners

Jews and Christians often open the same biblical texts carrying different histories, traditions, questions, and hopes. Reading Scripture Together brings one Jewish reader and one Christian reader together to explore those differences through sustained conversation around a shared text.

Each pair chooses a biblical book or group of passages that both participants genuinely want to read. They may select a text from the Tanakh/Hebrew Bible or, by mutual agreement, the New Testament. As they read, participants consider questions such as:

  • What do you notice in this text?

  • How have you heard it read within your faith community?

  • What practices, convictions, or hopes does it shape?

  • What does the other reader help you see differently?

Participants speak from their own experience rather than representing Judaism or Christianity as a whole. Each conversation creates room for careful listening, honest questions, and meaningful differences. The program does not permit proselytizing, pressure, or attempts to win an argument.

The Study Center matches interested participants according to their interests and availability and provides a simple guide for their conversations. Pairs may meet at the Study Center or online.

We are currently gathering names for an initial group of Jewish–Christian reading partners. Completing the interest form does not commit you to participate. It helps us learn what texts interest you, how you would prefer to meet, and what you hope to gain from the experience.
