A New Website and a New Season for the Schubach Library & Study Center

New Season

The Schubach Library & Study Center is entering a new season of work. Our new website is now live, and we will use it to make the Library’s work more visible and accessible.

The physical Library in Skokie remains the center of this work—a place where people can read, study, learn, teach, and gather. The website will extend that work beyond the building. It will provide information about the Library, announce courses and lectures, support online participation, and give us a regular way to share what we are learning.

Over the coming months, we will expand our schedule of courses, lectures, conversations, and other resources. Our courses will be offered in a hybrid format. Those who live in Skokie, Chicago, and the surrounding communities can join us at the Library, while those who live farther away can participate online. Information about our fall courses and lectures will appear on the website soon.

Introducing Dispatches

Dispatches will be our regular space for learning, reflection, and conversation.

We plan to publish two posts each week, along with announcements when needed. We want Dispatches to serve the mission of the Library without becoming only a bulletin board. It will be a place where readers can find useful resources, meet the people who make up our learning community, and reflect on the larger questions that shape Scripture, faith, and human life.

Our posts will generally fall into four broad categories.

Content posts will offer substantive learning. Some will focus directly on biblical texts, ancient Judaism, or early Christianity. Others will explore books, ideas, and questions that bear upon Scripture, faith, and human life.

People posts will introduce the scholars, teachers, students, supporters, and friends who contribute to the Library’s work. The Library is more than a collection of books. It is a community formed through shared study and conversation.

Event posts will introduce upcoming courses, lectures, and conversations. They will also provide resources that help participants prepare for an event or continue thinking afterward.

Reflection posts will consider the Library’s wider purpose: why careful study matters, what Jewish and Christian readers can learn through conversation, and how a library can serve both its local community and people who participate from a distance.

The perspectives expressed in individual Dispatches belong to their authors. We publish them as contributions to learning, reflection, and conversation within the Library’s wider mission.

We are beginning this season with a small community, and we hope to grow through personal connections. We invite you to explore the new website, follow the Schubach Library & Study Center on Facebook and Instagram, attend a course or lecture, and share our work with others who may find it valuable.
